That’s how Nam Hyun Kim ’20 described her experience with the Catholic Student Association retreat, March 2019 at the Franciscan Guest House, Kennebunkport, Maine.  The theme of the retreat was “The Beauty of the Cross”, and was led by Fr. Marvin Bearis, OFMCap.

Undergraduate Chaplain, Father Patrick Fiorillo is working closely with the CSA to make each weekend experience memorable.  “More so than anything the Harvard Catholic Center offers, the weekend retreat is the prime opportunity for students to grow in their relationship with Christ, deepen their sense of vocation and form closer bonds with fellow Catholic students.”  says Father Patrick.

The parents of the Class of 2019 are raising money for a collective Class Gift to benefit future retreats and to help make them affordable for anyone who wants to attend.  At the March retreat, 37 undergraduates attended the weekend making it one of the largest group of students in recent memory.

Sam Ho ’22 summed up his retreat experience this way, “I came to appreciate the necessity of a supportive community in the spiritual life. Throughout our lives, it is inevitable that we will face many struggles and will have to bear numerous crosses; therefore, we must try and find others with whom to bear our crosses so that we are not trying to bear our crosses alone. The retreat showed me that I did not need to search far and wide for these people when I had members of the CSA to lean on.

"Because of the success of the retreat, the leaders of the Catholic Student Association and Father Patrick are already planning for a return trip to the Franciscan Guest House, October 18-20.
