My Peace
I Give You

The Harvard Catholic Center undergrads and the CSA held its first ever virtual retreat on Saturday, October 17 lead by our very own alumna Sister Mary Margaret Hope, AM ’10, SV.  Sr. Hope joined the students from her convent in Yonkers, NY.  There was also an in-person component to the retreat for those students who are on campus.

The theme Sr. Hope shared with the students was, “My peace I give you: Receiving the communion of Divine life.”  She reflected on Chapter 14 of John’s Gospel and invited students to contemplate more deeply on the unique peace Jesus Christ gives each of us. The retreat consisted of two 90-minute sessions that included breakout groups as well as a personal witness by students Bea Castillo-Sahagun '21 and Luke Walker '22 in each session.

Prior to the start of the retreat, Fr. Patrick Fiorillo, undergraduate chaplain, celebrated Mass at St. Paul’s for those students who were on campus.  A total of 35 students participated including 18 freshmen.  Fr. Patrick said, “The freshmen and upperclassmen, were truly looking forward to meeting new people and connecting with friends.  We had students joining us from as far away as Los Angeles, California and South Africa.”

“Sr. Hope’s message of grounding our lives in Christ amidst the storms was very timely for these students,” said Fr. Patrick.  “Sister emphasized that growing in awareness of our own identities as children of God and the indwelling of the Holy Trinity in our hearts is the foundation of our spiritual lives."
